If you you have grown tired of playing a character in World of Wacraft, you have the option to disable your character. Disabling (or deleting) a character is simple, takes little time, and is free. This is a useful method when you would like to create a new character, but have reached your character limit. Instructions

  1. Disabling Your World of Warcraft Character

    • 1

Log into your World of Warcraft Account. If you have characters on multiple realms, select the realm where the character you wish to disable exists.

    • 2

Select the character you wish to disable. You will know your character is selected when an image of your character will appear on your screen. The character information will also be highlighted in your list of characters.

    • 3

Click on the Delete Character button in the lower right hand corner of the screen. A pop up window will appear in front of your character, asking if you wish to delete your character. Type the word delete into the text field, which will activate the okay button. Click the okay button to confirm and delete the character. Your character will disappear from your character list.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will not be able to disable your character if you have any outbound or incoming mail. Your characters mailbox must be empty.

  • If your character has any active auctions or has bid on any items in the auction house, you will be unable to disable your character until these bids are completed.

  • While you cannot access a disabled character from your World of Warcraft account, if you decide you would like to reactivate the character, or you deleted the wrong one by mistake, Blizzard, creator and manager of World of Warcraft, can restore the character for you. To request a character be reactivated, Blizzard instructs you to "contact a member of the Game Master Department via the in-game petition system. This can be done by selecting the red question mark (?) located in the bottom control panel, next to your bags." If you have disabled your only character, you may create a new character to send an in game petition. Blizzard also notes, you will need to include as much information about the character deletion as possible: name, level, race, and class. If you prefer, you can submit a character reactivation request via email at wowgm@blizzard.com.

  • Disabling your character will also delete all of your characters items. Soul bound items cannot be traded to other characters. However, you may send other non soul bound items to another character on your account or to a friend before disabling your character.

  • Disabling your character will also remove them from the character's guild, along with any friends lists they may be on.
