Creating smart storage for recipe books and cookbooks requires some planning and thought. Many people want to store their cookbooks in the kitchen, but don't have space in their cabinets. The right storage for your kitchen will depend upon your recipe book collection, your space and how you use your cookbooks. Design a freestanding or built-in cabinet for recipe books that works in your kitchen, keeping your cookbooks easily accessible, neat and organized.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Graph paper
  • Pencil
  • Tape measure
  1. Step 1

Determine where you would like to store your cookbooks. Choose a location near the kitchen for convenient access. Assess how much space you need for recipe book storage and how much space is available for a cookbook cabinet. Decide whether you want a shelf, a set of shelves, a cookbook cabinet or whether you can redesign current cabinet space to create a cabinet for recipe books.

  2. Step 2

Measure the space available for a cabinet for recipe books. Copy this onto graph paper, working to scale.

  3. Step 3

Look at your cookbook collection. Note the sizes of your books. Design your cookbook cabinet to fit the cookbooks you own and use, whether they are small or large. Allow space for magazine storage and recipe boxes if necessary.

  4. Step 4

Sketch out your recipe book cabinet design. Allow both open and closed storage if you have a large cookbook collection or would prefer to display only a few cookbooks at a time.

  5. Step 5

Visit your local home improvement center, discount store or furniture store. Look for items that meet your needs, or plan to custom-build your cookbook cabinet. Choose a cabinet for recipe books that matches the style of your kitchen. Select a clean simple bookshelf for a modern space or a vintage country cabinet for cozier look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to allow room for growth in your cookbook collection.
  • Add coordinated recipe boxes and magazine holders to keep your cookbook storage neat and tidy.
