How to Make Glossy Tempera Paint

Tempera paint is appreciated for its fast-drying opaque resolution. For those wishing to use tempera to achieve glossy results, tempera alone will not yield the desired effect. Achieving glossy tempera paint will require added materials and experimentation.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide on the colors you would like to use for your project.

    • 2

Purchase dry or liquid tempera paints. For this project, any brand will work to achieve glossy textures. Tempera can be found at most arts and craft stores.

    • 3

Mix 1 cup of flour slowly with water and heat until thickened. Allow to cool and divide the mixture into separate containers. Add a mix of 3 tbsp. of tempera, 2 tbsp. water, and 1/2 tsp. liquid detergent.

Alternatively, only stir in dry tempera with liquid detergent and use that mixture to paint. Experiment with paint texture by adding more detergent for glossier results.

Tips & Warnings

  • Work carefully with the tempera paint, as the paint can cause harm if inhaled.
