Instructions

    • 1

Strip all the bedding, including the mattress cover. Wash all the linens in very hot water. Seal up anything near the bed, such as stuffed animals, in plastic bags for several weeks.

    • 2

Vacuum the whole dorm room. Vacuum the mattress, any other furniture, the bed frames and baseboards. If the floor is carpeted, vacuum that, too. Make sure you dispose of the vacuum's contents in a sealed trash bag.

    • 3

Buy a natural bed-bug-killing product that will eliminate the bugs, but not be harmful to you or your roommate. Bed Bug Patrol is recommended---it has been proven effective and is an EPA exempt pesticide.

    • 4

Contact your resident adviser to determine if it's necessary to have a professional treat the dorm room. It's possible the bed may have to be removed if the bed bugs have infested the mattress.

Tips & Warnings

  • Despite the name, beds are not the only places bed bugs can be found. They can be found under the edge of carpeting, behind outlets, among clothing or inside electronics. Be sure to examine all the possibilities.

  • Be careful about using pesticides. They can be harmful to your health, especially after prolonged use.
