How to Use a Zoom Lens With Reading Glasses

If you wear corrective glasses you may find using cameras with a zoom lens slightly difficult. This is because your glasses keep you from resting your eye firmly against the eye piece, and if you remove the glasses you don't know if the image is actually in focus or not. Luckily, if you do use reading glasses there are a few different options available to help correct this issue.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a camera with a large digital display on the rear side. This keeps you from placing your eye against the eye piece and still allows you to take pictures and see if it is in focus. Most new digital cameras have this feature.

    • 2

Switch to contact lenses if you know you are going to be out taking pictures for an extended period of time. This may save you any frustration or discomfort of adjusting your glasses and zoom lens camera.

    • 3

Locate the small eyepiece adjuster, which is a small device that is attached to the eyepiece. This adjuster changes the focus of the eyepiece so individuals with glasses can use the camera and zoom lens without actually wearing glasses.

    • 4

Remove your glasses and look through the eyepiece. You may want your glasses to have a string, chain or rope around the ear pieces so it can dangle safely from your neck.

    • 5

Aim the camera at something nearby that doesn't move, such as a tree or house. Adjust the focus of the eyepiece until you can see clearly without the aid of your glasses. This allows you to take pictures without the reading glasses stepping in the way.
