How to Pinch a Lacrosse Head
Lacrosse is a sport which is growing in popularity every year. One of the fundamental parts of the game is the customization of a player's gear to match his needs. Pinching the head of a stick is a method for bringing in the sides of the stick's head. The benefit of this pinch is that a tighter head makes it more difficult for a defender to dislodge the ball.
Things You'll Need
- Lacrosse stick
- Wooden stick, 6 1/2 inches long
- Two pieces of strong, thin cord
- Hairdryer
- Freezer
Instructions
-
-
1
Insert the wooden stick inside the top of the head to prevent the top of the head from narrowing when you pinch the neck.
-
2
Pass one cord through the side wall of the head where you want to pinch it. This is usually the start of the pocket, where the head's angle changes from swooping more in than down, to progressing down while not getting much narrower.
-
-
3
Tie a double knot in the cord tightly, pulling the sides of the head in slightly as you pull tight.
-
4
Repeat Steps 2 and 3 with the second cord, pinching the head slightly more while tying, creating slack in the first cord.
-
5
Repeat Steps 2 through 4, untying the loose cord, and retying it tighter than the other cord until your head is at the desired pinch.
-
6
Set your hairdryer to high and aim it at the pinched portion of the head. Sweep the hairdryer over the pinched portion of head continuously for 20 minutes. This will soften the plastic, making it form to the pinched shape.
-
7
Place the head in the freezer for at least a half hour to allow it to harden again.

Tips & Warnings
Pinching the head too much is illegal. If the head can be turned over with a ball in the pocket, and the ball doesn't fall out, you will be subject to a penalty, resulting in a man-up for the opposition.
