How to Obtain Police Reports in Colorado

Obtaining a police report in the state of Colorado is easier than you might think. Depending on which county and department you are trying to obtain the report from, there are different laws and procedures you will need to follow. Colorado state law permits police to redact sensitive portions of reports, according to the Clear Creek Sheriff's Department.

Obtaining a Report in Clear Creek County

1. Visit the Sheriff's department or download a request form from the website. Police reports are available to anyone.

2. Calculate the exact cost of obtaining your report. The cost to obtain a police report is $1 per page and can be paid using cash, check or money order.

3. Submit your payment for the report to the Clear Creak Sheriff's department. After a member of the Record's Division has contacted you, you will receive the report within seven days.

Obtaining a Report from Colorado Springs

1. Request the report from the Colorado Springs Police Department. You will need either a case number and victim's name, a victim's name and date of birth, or a suspect's name, date of birth, date of incident and incident location. Send a letter requesting the report to the police department.

2. Calculate the cost of obtaining your report. The cost of obtaining the report will depend on the length and starts at $6. Money should be paid to the Records Release Section.

3. Pay the department using check or money order. The case report will arrive to you after payment has processed and case report has been researched and found by the Records Release Section.

Obtaining a Report in Jefferson County

1. Complete an application for criminal justice records form at the sheriff's office or on its website.

2. Calculate the cost of obtaining the report. The cost is $5 for the first 10 pages, and 25 cents for each additional page.

3. Pay the Sheriff's department for the police report using a check or money order. The police report should arrive to you within a week. It can take up to three days for the department to process your request for the report.

Obtaining a Report in Denver County

1. Contact the Denver Police Department to obtain the correct form, or download it from its website.

2. Calculate the cost of obtaining your report. Arrest records cost $15.

3. Send your payment to the Denver Police Department. Your report should arrive by mail shortly.

Obtaining a Report in Arapahoe County

1. Contact the Arapahoe County Sherriff's Office and ask to speak with a member of the records division, or go in person and tell them you need to request a police report.

2. Find out the cost of obtaining the report, as it varies.

3. Submit your payment to the Arapahoe County Sherriff's department. Your copy of the report should arrive shortly.
