Even though concrete is a strong and durable substance, it's still very porous. When dirt comes into contact with concrete, much of it is absorbed, making it harder to remove the stains. It takes only a little water to turn dirt into mud, which sullies everything it touches and gets carried from one area of concrate to the nex by way of shoes or paws. While irritating, mud stains on concrete aren't impossible to remove.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Push broom
  • Bucket
  • Hot water
  • Powdered or liquid detergent
  1. Step 1

Brush away as much of the mud from the cement as possible with a push broom. Dried mud is easier to sweep away.

  2. Step 2

Fill a bucket with hot water and add a cup of liquid or powdered dish or laundry detergent.

  3. Step 3

Pour enough of the soapy water onto the concrete to saturate the area.

  4. Step 4

Scrub the area with a push broom. Push in small, circular motions to avoid scattering water in areas you don't want it.

  5. Step 5

Rinse the area with clean water and visually inspect it to see how much of the stain remains.

  6. Step 6

Continue adding soapy water, scrubbing and rinsing until the stain is gone.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use one part chlorine bleach and three parts water for particularly difficult stains.
  • If the stains appear to be laden with minerals making it look like there's rust present, use a solution one part white vinegar to three parts water to scrub the area clean.
  • A power washer can be a powerful asset in removing stubborn mud stains. Follow the directions for the washer carefully.
  • If the stain cannot be removed, contact a professional to consider resurfacing the area with an overlay.
