How to Stop Hair Breaking From Roots
Everyone dreads random hairs scattered about around the sink and floor. Excessive hair breakage can be devastating to an individual's self-esteem. Breakage can be caused by a number of factors, including mechanical stress to the hair shaft through combing, environmental stress to the shaft from the harsh sun and home heat appliances, or chemical stress by way of perming, relaxing and coloring the hair. However the breakage is caused, it always stems from one basic problem with the hair: an inherent moisture and protein imbalance within the hair strand. A two-pronged, moisture/protein conditioning solution is required to stop breakage in its tracks. Does this Spark an idea?

Stopping Hair Breakage at the Roots
-
1
Clarify your hair with a clarifying shampoo like Kenra Clarifying or Pantene Purity Shampoo to remove any stubborn product build up from the strands. These cleansing shampoos are stronger than typical formulas and will give the hair a fresh, clean start.
-
2
Cleanse and condition your hair as usual with a quality moisturizing shampoo and conditioner formula. Handle your wet hair with care. Do not rinse the conditioner.
-
-
3
Cover your hair with a plastic cap and sit under a hair dryer for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
-
4
Repeat this cleansing and deep conditioning process once or twice per week for 3 weeks. This will help restore your moisture balance and drastically reduce hair breakage.
-
5
Add in a protein reconstructing product like Aphogee 2-minute keratin reconstructor or Joico Moisture Recovery conditioner beginning Week 4 to replace the moisturizing conditioner used in earlier weeks. This step will reinforce your hair's protein structure and impart strength to fight breakage.
-
6
Cut back on your use of heat styling tools. Flat irons, crimpers and blow dryers damage the hair shaft and rob it of its precious moisture content. Damage to the protein structure of the hair shaft, and the subsequent moisture loss it encourages, will result in heavy breakage.
-
7
Reduce your exposure to chemical services and treatments. By cutting back on your hair coloring, relaxing and perming, you are reducing the level of assault against your hair shaft. Fewer chemical treatments means fewer opportunities for breakage caused by consistenly over-processing the hair.

Tips & Warnings
If your hair is chemically processed, consider basing the length of your hair in addition to the standard scalp basing and hairline basing procedure. This will protect your hair against over-processing as the relaxer is rinsed from your hair.
Handle breaking hair with care. Always wear low manipulation hairstyles like buns or rollersets while you are working to correct breakage issues.
