Things You'll Need:
- Hp Dv7 Laptop with Windows Vista
- Windows XP Install Disc
- Free BIOS Editor

Step 1
First you'll need to make sure that you are using the Admin
account on your Hp Dv7 Laptop.
You can do this by accessing the Start Menu > Control Panel > Users Menu -
Step 2
Next, you'll need to restart your computer and access the BIOS as
it is starting back up
(For some laptops, you can access the hp dv7 BIOS by pressing
(CTRL+F11) as it is starting up. -
Step 3
From the BIOS menu, you'll need to configure your NTSF drives and
turn on their Overwrite access code.
You can do this with any free BIOS editor! -
Step 4
After you have edited the BIOS overwrite access configuration, you
may now restart your computer
and run it in safe mode. This is an option as you restart your computer. -
Step 5
Insert your copy of Windows XP as you are restarting in Safe Mode
and make sure
as you are installing XP to check the box that implies "Overwrite
Mode!" This is very important, as
you don't want to lose any information from your harddrive. -
Step 6
Finish install, configure personal options, and there you go!
Your hp dv7 laptop will now be able to run
Windows XP. Enjoy.

on 11/12/2009 It has only been tested on the dv7-1025nr, dv7-1245dx, dv7-1450us, and dv7-2170us, dv7-2180us models. If you try it with any other models, please let us know if it works. Thanks.

on 11/12/2009 i have to assume that this trick ONLY works on the HP Dv 7? or has this just not been tested on other types and models?
