Make an Acoustic Guitar Humidifier

Storing your acoustic guitar in its case with a guitar humidifier is one of the most important things you can do to prolong the life and sound quality of your guitar. Read on to learn how to make a simple guitar humidifier cheaply and easily.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A drill
  • scissors
  • 1/4 inch drill bit
  • Sponge
  • Tupperware(about 2"x2")
  1. Step 1

First, press the Tupperware onto the sponge and either trace with a pen or press hard to make an imprint. Cut inside of your marks about 1/4" because you'll want the sponge a little smaller than the container in order to allow room for swelling when you wet the sponge.

  2. Step 2

Drill 8-10 evenly spaced holes in the top of the plastic Tupperware container. This will be the top of your guitar humidifier and will allow the moisture to escape the container and humidify the air in your acoustic guitar case.

  3. Step 3

Finally, soak the sponge and then squeeze to wring out any excess water. Place the moist sponge inside the container and seal the lid of your acoustic guitar humidifier. Place inside your guitar case and shut the case. Re-wet the sponge about once a week.

Tips & Warnings
  • Place guitar humidifier as close to the body of the guitar as possible rather than near the neck.
  • Make sure the sponge is wrung out well before placing in guitar case to avoid water leaking and damaging your acoustic guitar.
  • Make sure you choose a Tupperware or plastic container size that will fit inside your guitar case with your acoustic guitar.
