Make an initial list of keywords. This can be a brainstorming session where you list all words that come to mind that have some association to your website.
Once completed, refine your list and remove all ambiguous terms, vague words, and avoid words that are over-used or too competitive. You would want to be more specific with your keywords or phrases and use "Mary's Web Design" and make sure this phrase is included in your website. -

Select the most popular words in your content category and utilize these words efficiently. Click on the Keyword Suggestion Tool link at the end of this article to get new keyword ideas. The "Keyword Suggestion Tool" is a free service from Google and is extremely valuable in assisting you in getting the best target keywords.

Step 3
The Search Based Keyword Tool is another excellent way to find specific keywords that will maximize your search results placement (see resource link). It is based on actual Google search queries and matches specific pages of your website.
