Step 1
Mall Walking—Good Exercise in the WinterEXERCISING, DIETING AND STILL GAINING WEIGHT. I use to get so angry when I’d diet, exercise, and then step on the scale to see that I weighed more. The good news is that muscle weighs more than fat. It will take more than a week for muscles to begin growing. The bad news is that it takes three months for fat stores to start emptying. But let’s get back to the good news. Muscles devour calorie intake. The more muscle mass the more calories it will burn. In fact, every pound of muscle will burn 80 calories a day. From walking to lifting weights you can build muscle. Don’t despair and give up on the diet and exercise. It is best not to focus on the number on your scale but more on dropping the dress or pant size.

Step 2
Eat Your Holiday Meals Earlier Than LaterTHE FOOD PYRAMID. Most of us are aware and taught in school about the USDA food pyramid; eating a well balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, grains and proteins recommended for optimal health. What is not mentioned is that most of us eat 60% of our calorie intake after 4 P.M. Part of the pyramid to good health according to the USDA recommends about 11 carb servings a day. If you are eating carbs into the evening hours you could add pounds even if you are watching your calorie intake. Insulin levels raise at night. Insulin works with carbs and turns them into fats. It is best to eat most of your carbs and calories before dinner. You can eat the same number of calories just adjust your intake differently. Make the evening meal light. Eating the fruits and lean proteins at night for dinner and cutting out the grains at dinner. You will loose weight with this one simple rule.

Step 3
High Fructose on LabelTHE FRUCTOSE TRAP. Even though the shelves are packed with diet friendly foods with low-fat labels, they may contain high doses of fructose. This is a sugar that metabolizes very quickly into fat rather instead of being used for energy. Start looking at labels for fructose. The first three ingredients in a package are the highest in content. If fructose is one of the first three ingredients avoid that product.
