As people age, often their skin starts to develop small dark blotches. These spots can appear on your face, hands, legs and chest area. If you have spent a lot of time in the sun, you are even more susceptible to them. Although age spots are not dangerous, many people want to make them less noticeable. Make sure to check with a dermatologist to make sure you have benign age spots rather than something more serious. Here are some ways to remove benign age spots.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Dab a little lemon juice on the spots several times a day. It may take 6 to 8 weeks to sees any changes. Lemon juice has vitamin C in it and has been used in other countries to lighten skin. Be extra cautious when in the sun, and apply sunscreen to protect it from any additional sun exposure.

  2. Step 2

Applications of nonprescription creams containing hydroquinone (a form of bleach), licorice extract, vitamin C or soy are available.

  3. Step 3

Prescription medications are available from a dermatologist containing retinol. When using a drug containing retinol, it is very important to be very conscientious when applying sunscreen.

  4. Step 4

Laser treatments offer immediate results. It is fast and the brown spot merely peels off.

  5. Step 5

Dermabrasion is a surgical procedure in which your skin is “sanded” down. The healing process can take up to a week or more.

  6. Step 6

Microdermabrasion is a non invasive technique that removes some of the top layer of the skin. There is little recovery time, its effectiveness will require that multiple treatments be completed several weeks apart to see results.
