Veterans Day is November 11. It is a day that is observed around the country as a day to honor our veterans for their years of service to our country. Schools have gotten away from a lot of things over the years and honoring veterans should not be overlooked or forgotten. There are some ways to celebrate Veterans Day in schools that won't take much time, but will have a big impact on kids.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flag
  • Guest speaker
  • School band
  1. Step 1

Fill the gym with school kids as the school band plays appropriate musical selections. This will be the prelude and the posting of the colors. Have members of the school carry in the flag as the kids stand and face the flag. If you have a local veteran's chapter, maybe they could post the colors for the school.

  2. Step 2

Recite the Pledge of Allegiance. After the pledge, have the kids sing the National Anthem.

  3. Step 3

Introduce the program and read the Presidents Veterans Day Proclamation. This can be found at whitehouse.gov.

  4. Step 4

Invite some Veterans to speak at the event. Local military are always interested in sharing their stories with schools.

  5. Step 5

End the program with the school band playing Taps after a moment of silence for those that lost their lives.
