How to Manage XP Taskbar Notification Icons

In Windows XP, have you ever wondered how to hide those small icons on computer task bar near the clock? Those are Windows active and urgent notifications. You can manage how many are displayed. Follow these simple and easy steps.

Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Properties

    Right-click the taskbar located at the bottom of your screen, then select “Properties.”

  2. Step 2

    Notification area

    A window will pop-up called “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties.” Select “customize” at the bottom under "Notification area.”

  3. Step 3
    Notification Behavior
     
    Notification Behavior

    A window will pop-up called “Customize Notifications.” Find the name of the icon of which you would like to change the notification. Next to it select the displayed behavior. A drop-down box of behavior option will appear. Your choices are “Hide when inactive, Always hide, Always show.” Select the desired behavior and the “Okay” and the bottom of the box.

  4. Step 4
    Apply

    Then click “Apply” on the and “Okay” on the “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties” box and you are done.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also access “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties” in Control Panel of your Windows settings.
