How to Listen to Free Audio Books on Your iPod
Just like you can read books on your iPod for free. You can listen to free audio books on your iPod. Listening to audio books on your iPod is even easier than reading books on it. Many audio books come in mp3 format so they are supported by all iPods and the free Audio books come from the same place as the free text format books; Project Gutenberg.

On the audio books page you can choose a link to browse a list of human read audio books, or a list of computer generated audio books. I prefer human voice over the computer voice.

The list of audio books is organized in alphabetical order by author, or title and includes books in many languages. You can browse here or if you already know what book you want you may type the title or author's name in the search box at the left.

When the audio book you want appears in the search click the link to go to the audio book information page. Here you will find multiple links to files to download. There will always be a readme.txt file, read this before downloading the files.

There may be a zip file containing all the mp3's. Downloading this will be easiest. Not all audio books will have the zip file so you may need to download all the individual files. Decompress the zip file to a new folder, or if you downloaded individuals move them to a new folder.

Open iTunes and choose the File menu, add to iTunes library, and browse to the folder with the audio book mp3's. Allow iTunes to import the audio book.
Tips & Warnings
The search on Project Gutenberg can be tricky if you don't find the book you're looking for try making the search broader.
Audio books become a lot of mp3 files. Putting each book in its own folder will help manage files on your hard drive and iPod.
