Computers like any other electronics often get dirty and dusty. In order to keep them in tip top shape and optimum performance they must be cleaned. After time, most computers get clogged up with dust and dirt and this leads to the USB ports having difficulty communicating. Here are steps to keep those connections clean.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Condensed Air
  • Swabs
  • Alcohol
  • Toothpick
  1. Step 1

Turn off the computer and check the ports on the front and back of the machine. Inspect all the jacks, headphones, microphones, USB ports, Ethernet connections.

  2. Step 2

Take a can of compressed air, which is available at most home office stores like Staples, and spray out the loose bits of dust. Use short burst of spray to get the goo out of the computer.

  3. Step 3

If the dirt is stuck or jammed in the computer parts and connections use a toothpick to gently remove the dirt particles and then use the compressed air to blast out the rest of the particles.

  4. Step 4

And while the computer is still off take a cotton swab and dip lightly in alcohol. Clean computer ports gently. Keep the computer off until completely dry.

  5. Step 5

Perform the computer cleaning on a regular basis to insure that the computer is clean and running free of dirt and dust.
