So, you were busy talking on that cell phone at the swimming pool and the cellular telephone suddenly slipped out of your hand and into the water. Or perhaps it slipped out of a pocket into a tub or a toilet! Don't panic! Retrieve that cellular phone of yours out of the water as quick as possible. And follow these steps.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Take the phone and remove the battery. Then take out the SIM card before it is damaged. A Phones SIM card usually holds lots of important information you probably want to save. Take a long look at the phone. Remove any cellular phone parts that are removable. For example, some cell phones have an easily removable shell and back cover.

  2. Step 2

Now get that cell phone to a warm dry surface like a warm sunny windowsill. Let it dry for a few hours. Do not apply direct heat to the phone or toss it in the microwave. Some people have actually tried this and regretted it later!

  3. Step 3

Next, take a box of uncooked rice and pour into a large plastic bag or ziplock type plastic bag. Then place the cellphone in the bag of rice and seal. The rice should absorb the rest of the moisture from the cellular telephone. Now, let the phone remain in the bag for a few days. And wait patiently.

  4. Step 4

After a few days remove the phone from the bag of rice. Use a can of condensed air to spray off dust on cell phone inside the bag. Insert the SIM card. Put the cell phone back together. Now, make a call. If the phone works ... you are in luck!

  5. Step 5

If the phone still does not work after trying the above methods salvage the SIM card and try inserting it in another phone to retrieve any important stored data. Or take the phone with SIM card to your service provider. They should be able to retrieve data on the SIM card.
