How to Take Care of a Dwarf Weeping Cherry Tree

A dwarf weeping cherry tree does well when planted near water so you can see its beauty twice: once in the tree itself and again in its reflection. It produces flowers that are bright pink, making it a perfect centerpiece to your landscaping design. The trees grow well in zones 5 through 8 and are fairly easy to maintain if you follow a few steps for proper care and maintenance.

Instructions

1. Provide plenty of sunlight. Plant your dwarf weeping cherry tree in an area that receives full sun, meaning that the tree will get six to eight hours of direct sunlight each day.

2. Water regularly. The dwarf weeping cherry tree prefers well-drained soil, but can also tolerate clay soil. It requires moist soil for maximum growth, so water often during dry seasons. Properly moistened soil also provides a better chance of keeping pests off of your tree.

3. Plant mulch around the base of the tree. This will facilitate hydration and provide a surface for the weeping branches to touch without harm.

4. Prune back the tree to a single leader branch when it is young. Allow the weeping branches to grow until they reach the ground.
