How to Install a Chain on a Poulan Chainsaw
There may come a time when you need to install a new chain on your Poulan chainsaw. Over the years, you might find that the chain has broken or become worn, so you'll have to install a new chain before using it again. Luckily, you can do this yourself without getting help from the manufacturer. New chainsaw chains range in price from $10 to $20 depending on the model of your Poulan chainsaw. Disengage the chain brake on the Poulan chainsaw by pulling the front hand guard toward the rear of the chainsaw.

Remove an old chainsaw chain if one is present. Remove it carefully from behind the clutch, around the drum sprocket and away from the guide bar.

Hold the new chain in the right direction. The cutters on the chain should be facing the direction of the Poulan chainsaw's rotation.

Wrap the chain around and behind the clutch, fitting the links into the drum sprocket in the clutch.

Fit the links in between the teeth of the sprocket. Make sure they fit in the nose of the guide bar, as well as the bar groove.

Pull the guide bar forward to ensure a snug chainsaw chain. Examine all of the chain links to make sure they are fitting in the bar groove.

Engage the chain break by pushing the front hand guard toward the front of the Poulan chainsaw. Turn on the chainsaw to test if it is running smoothly. Realign the chain if it wasn't installed properly the first time.
