Instructions

    • 1

Decide which type of gourd you want to grow. Regular hard-shell gourds come in more than 30 varieties, and there are more than 10 varieties of ornamental and luffa gourds. This leaves a lot of room on your part for the planting direction you wish to take. (Ref. 1.)

    • 2

Figure out how many gourd seeds you are going to need. If it's a small amount, you will be able to purchase the seed from a garden center nearby. If you need more seeds than the garden center can supply, move on to Step 3. (Ref. 1.)

    • 3

Acquire the Seed Supplier Directory for your area. You can find this information on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's website. The directory will provide phone numbers and e-mail addresses for all of the suppliers that provide seeds near you. Cross off any supplier that does not carry the type of gourd seeds that you are looking for.

    • 4

Call or e-mail each supplier and ask for their seed prices. Also, ask if the price changes if you buy in bulk. If you need the seeds delivered, factor in delivery costs to the price. Certain suppliers may also provide some type of satisfaction guarantee.

    • 5

Factor in price, quality of product, availability, and any guarantee when making the final decision on which supplier to use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Different gourds grow better in different conditions. Know which gourds grow best in your environment before purchasing seeds.
