How to Season Teflon Coated Frying Pans

Although Teflon-coated frying pans have a nonstick surface, they sometimes require seasoning. "Seasoning" means to treat the pan with oil to create, or rejuvenate, a nonstick surface. Cast iron pans traditionally require regular seasoning. But, with use and as Teflon-coated pans age, the surface may need to be seasoned to add to its life and effectiveness. Seasoning a Teflon-coated frying pan, or other Teflon-coated cookware, is fast and simple. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

      Heat the Teflon-coated frying pan on the stove top until it is just warm.

    • 2

      Add just enough vegetable oil to to coat the inside of the pan.

    • 3

      Swirl the oil in the pan to evenly coat the surface.

    • 4

      Heat the oil until ripples begin to appear on the oil's surface.

    • 5

      Remove the pan from the burner and pour out the oil.

    • 6

      Wipe the inside of the pan with paper towels to remove the excess oil.

    • 7

      Let the pan cool to room temperature.

Tips & Warnings

  • Seasoned Teflon pans should be washed with warm soapy water and dried immediately.

  • Do not put seasoned Teflon pans in the dishwasher.

  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or sponges on seasoned Teflon pans.
