Japanese beetles have a voracious appetite and tend to live in large colonies. For these two reasons, an infestation of Japanese beetles can quickly do damage to your corn crop, potentially ruining the entire crop if not addressed immediately. It is best to avoid pesticides on any plants that will be harvested for food. Instead, try beetle traps, which will attract and trap the beetles without endangering your crops.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water
  • Yeast
  • Sugar
  • Mixing bowl
  • Mixing spoon
  • Banana
  • Gallon jug, empty
  1. Step 1

Mix 1 cup water, 1/4 cup sugar and a package of yeast in the mixing bowl until the yeast and sugar have dissolved.

  2. Step 2

Peel the banana and mash it thoroughly. Combine the mashed banana with the liquid in the bowl.

  3. Step 3

Fill the gallon jug with the mixture from the bowl. The gallon jug becomes the Japanese beetle trap. Repeat as needed to make multiple traps.

  4. Step 4

Place the traps amidst the corn. The mix inside the jug attracts the beetles, causing them to get stuck and die.
