How to Remove Exterior Door Handles on a Chevy Celebrity

Removing the exterior door handles on a Chevy Celebrity must be done when you are replacing the handle, or lock assembly. The Celebrity's door locking mechanism must be removed before the handles can be removed. If you have never done this job before, this process should take you about an hour on most model years of the Celebrity. While the process is straightforward, removing some of the components does take patience so that you do not break the retaining clips or rip and damage the interior door panel.

Things You'll Need:

• Trim removal tool
• Screwdriver

1. Remove the screws on the inside door panel near the door hinge.

2. Remove the screws on the door's armrest and handle assembly.

3. Pry the inside door panel off using a trim removal tool. Wedge the teeth of the tool behind the door panel and pry the panel off. Take your time. The door panel uses retaining clips to secure the panel to the door frame. If you don't pry hard enough, the panel will not come off. However, if you pry too hard, you will break the clips right off and will have a hard time securing the panel to the door when you put the door back together.

4. Reach behind the panel and remove the two bolts that hold the exterior door handle in place.

5. Pull up on the lock rod mechanism and push the exterior door handle out to remove it.
