Turning plain photo frames into customized, kid-friendly ones for a child's room is easy to do and a fun project that kids that can get involved in. With a few low-cost supplies, you can turn old photo frames or dull photo frames into decorative ones. Making photo frames for kids doesn't require much time, and the results will put a smile on any kid's face.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Photo frame
  • Glue
  • Beads
  • Glitter
  • Acrylic paint
  • Brushes
  • Stencils
  • Tape
  • Newspaper
  1. Step 1

Find a place to work where you can lay out all of the decorating supplies. A kitchen table works well. Cover the area with newspaper so it will be easy to clean once the project is over.

  2. Step 2

Paint a design on the frame with stencils. You can get a variety of stencils to fit just about any theme. Place a stencil on the frame and tape it in place so you can paint the stencil design onto the frame. Let the painted designs dry before continuing.

  3. Step 3

Add glitter to the frame. Place a drop of glue on the area where you want to apply glitter, then spread it into a thin layer with your finger so it doesn't harden thickly on the frame. Sprinkle glitter on the glue while it's wet.

  4. Step 4

Add beads, colored glass, or even stones or seashells to the frame. Place a single drop of glue on the frame where you want to place a bead, then set the bead on top of the glue and let it dry. Try arranging several beads into a pattern in alternating colors, or write your child's name on the picture frame with beads.

Tips & Warnings
  • There's no need to use expensive frames because they will be covered by the end of the project. Involve your kids in the decorating process so they can customize photo frames to fit their personalities.
  • Other ideas for kids' photo frames include CD jewel cases, foam, Popsicle sticks, twigs, or a Valentine's Day heart-shaped candy box.
