How to Plant Creeping Red Sedum
Creeping red sedum (sedum spurium, Fulda Glow) is also known as dragon's blood. The ground cover displays bright red-orange spiny leaves year round. Vivid red, star-shaped flowers bloom throughout the summer. The vibrancy of both the flowers and the foliage are most intense in the sunniest locations. Creeping red sedum is an excellent choice for edging, rock gardens and borders. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Space holes for the plants 12 to 18 inches apart. The condition of the soil is not a factor. The ground cover will do well in even the driest, most infertile soil. Any location receiving from six or more hours of direct sunlight each day to almost no direct sun will be tolerated. The fibrous root system makes it a good selection for steep hillsides or banks requiring erosion control. Creeping red sedum is very low maintenance and will adapt to any environment.

2
Dig holes at a size to accommodate the same depth and width of the root ball. Don't set the plant any deeper or more shallow than it was in the original container. Keep the creeping red sedum at the same ground level

Plant the seedlings, fill the holes with the excess dirt and press down firmly. The creeping red sedum is extremely easy to care for. Once established, the 3- to 4-inch thick red blanket will survive the most adverse growing conditions and will not need to be fertilized.

4
Water the planted area very thoroughly to ensure the roots have been saturated. This will give the ground cover an opportunity to get a good strong start and the plants will spread to a 12- to 15-inch width in no time. Normal rainfall will be sufficient with no need for additional watering.

Pruning and trimming of spent blooms is not necessary. The brilliant red carpet will take care of itself, providing its benefits and beauty for your pleasure and satisfaction.
