How to Plant Pre-Germinated Seeds
Pre-germinated seeds sprout before planting. Gardeners plant pre-germinated seeds if they plant late in the growing season, want to establish a plant faster or are trying to determine if their vegetable seeds will grow. To produce pre-germinated seeds, submerge your seeds in water for 12 hours, then drain them for 12 hours. Follow the soak-and-drain cycle again. Plant your seeds right away after their second draining, or keep them refrigerated for a week. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Test the soil's pH at your planting site. Amend the soil based on the results of the soil test and the proper pH range for the seeds you are planting. Add lime to acidic soil and sulfur to alkaline soil.
-
2
Test your soil's drainage by conducting the feel test. Grab a handful of soil and squeeze. Soil that produces droplets of water has too much moisture. If the soil flakes or breaks off in chunks, it is too dry. Soil with adequate moisture will be malleable in your hand.

3
Remove any vegetation around the planting site. Plants and grass can compete with the seed for nutrients and water.
-
4
Make furrows or trenches into the soil with a hoe according to the directions on the seed package. Large seeds require deeper furrows than smaller seeds. Place the seeds in the furrows and cover them with 1/2 inch of soil.

5
Set your garden hose on a fine spray setting and water the area thoroughly.

Tips & Warnings
Do not leave the sprouts exposed when planting, as birds may eat them or rain may wash them away.
Avoid exposing the seeds to temperatures higher than 100 F so your seeds do not dry out and die.
