How to Convert Slides to Digital Pictures

Before the age of digital cameras and long before electronic displays of homemade images, you had to present your pictures via slide projector if you wanted to showcase your photographs to other individuals. This is no longer the case, but you may have hundreds of old slides sitting in a box, collecting dust. Luckily, the images do not need to be forgotten and can be updated to a digital format and used on modern computers.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the slide scanner to your computer. Most slide scanners have a cable that inserts into any USB port.

    • 2

Click "Start," followed by "All Programs" and "Accessories." Select "Scanner and Camera Image Upload."

    • 3

Insert the first slide into the scanner. A new window loads on the desktop with color and size options. Adjust the image resolution by clicking "Custom" and selecting the DPI you want. The more DPIs (dots per square inch), the larger the image resolution and the larger the image file.

    • 4

Click "Preview" and the computer quickly scans the image to display a preview image of the slide.

    • 5

Click "Scan" and the computer scans the slide in full resolution, creating a digital picture of your slide.
