How to Remove the Door Handle on a Lincoln Mark VIII

You should remove and replace the door handle on your Lincoln Mark VIII if the handle is broken or the door lock assembly is no longer functioning. The Mark VIII uses two bolts to secure the handle to the frame of the door. Use a trim removal tool, available at most auto parts stores, to remove the inner door panel to access the handle. Because of all the electronic components, you'll need roughly an hour to do this job.

Things You'll Need:

• Screwdriver
• Trim removal tool
• Socket wrench
• Socket set

1. Use the screwdriver to remove the screws underneath the door armrest, as well as the screws holding the top of the door handle and armrest assembly to the inside door panel.

2. Pry the armrest assembly off the door using the trim removal tool. Wedge the teeth of the tool under the armrest, and pry the armrest off.

3. Pry the door trim off the door using the trim removal tool. Starting at the top, pry off the door panel. Work your way around the outside of the panel until the panel comes off.

4. Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts holding the door handle and lock to the frame.

5. Pull up on the lock rod assembly that is connected to the back of the door handle to remove it from the back of the door handle.

6. Slide the door handle out from the outside of the door.

7. Slide the inside portion of the door handle off the door panel.
