Deep shelves can offer great storage options, but can can also be frustrating when the items you need are buried in the back. Being smart and organized about the items that go in your deep shelves can save both a headache when searching for something, as well as allowing you to utilize precious storage space for other items you do not need as frequently. Regular maintenance to keep your shelves organized will save you a lot of time in the end.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Clear off your shelves entirely to allow for a clean slate to start organizing.

  2. Step 2

Gather any items that you use less frequently than your day-to-day items and store them along the back of the shelf in rows or in baskets for smaller items. Depending on what you are using your deep shelves for, these can include anything from food storage items to guest sheets, to toilet paper.

  3. Step 3

Use the top shelf for items that you use less frequently such as a mixer, holiday decorations, or first aid items. If you have little ones, the top shelf is ideal for cleaners or anything else you don't want them to touch.

  4. Step 4

Use the front part of the shelves at eye level for items you use daily such as contact lens solution or make-up, kitchen staples, or towels. Use baskets to separate items to allow for more organization.

  5. Step 5

Save the bottom shelf for items you use weekly but not every day. This includes sheets and pillowcases, mixing bowls, or bubble bath and bath toys.
