How to Repair Plastic Mesh Beach Chairs
Beach chairs with plastic mesh are lightweight and comfortable, easy to carry, and never need painting. The plastic webbing, however, often becomes frayed and faded after years of summer sun and fun. The straps, secured to aluminum frames with screws, pop rivets or clips, can be easily replaced. Take out the old webbed, plastic mesh by removing the screws and washers with a screwdriver. Remove mesh secured with pop rivets by drilling them out of the chair frame.

Cut a new plastic mesh strap, using the old strap as a template. Fold the ends of the strap to form a triangle. Make the triangle by folding over one edge, then the other, to form what resembles a house roof.

Create a hole in the center of each triangle by hammering an awl through the mesh.

Install the new horizontal mesh strap first. Insert a screw and washer into the smooth side of the hole you have created, and attach it to the chair frame. Repeat with each horizontal mesh strap.

Pull each piece you have replaced tightly, guiding it around the outside of the chair frame to the underside. Hold the strap with a pair of pliers while screwing it in the chair frame.

Install the new vertical strap by inserting a screw and washer into the smooth side of the hole and attaching it to the chair frame. Repeat with each new vertical strap.

Weave the vertical straps over and under the horizontal straps.

Pull each vertical strap tightly with pliers around the outside of the chair frame. Screw the strap into the chair frame.
