Step 1
Design and color your logo by hand. Color your logo with color pencil for the initial sketch. You can manipulate and customize the colors later on. The goal is to get a full color on your logo, ensuring that none of the paper shows through the pencil colors.
-
Step 2
Choose a graphics editing program to do your customizing in. Photoshop is an ideal graphics program. There are several alternatives to Photoshop. GIMP is a free alternative to Photoshop (see Resources). Anyone can use it, and it comes with plenty of artistic options to help you customize your logo.
-
Step 3
Scan your logo into the computer and open it in you GIMP. Go to the "Colors" menu to select a tool to adjust the colors in your logo. Use the hue or saturation commands to adjust cover levels and to bring out specific tones until the colors in your logo have the balance you are after. You can also adjust contrast and brightness levels from this menu.
-
Step 4
Use the "Filters" menu to add finishing touches to your logo. You can apply a number of artistic effects to give your logo a sketch or paint appearance. Add gradients and light and shadow effects to create depth in your logo and to bring the colors out on your logo's face.
-
Step 5
Do final touch ups with the "Tools" menu. You can use a paint brush, dodge, burn, smudge and airbrush to bring out the textures of your logo or to cover any imperfections to give yourself a customized color logo suitable for any situation for which you will need a professional logo.
