How to Write a Forensic Scientist Resume
Forensic scientists collect and analyze data for the purpose of assisting with criminal investigations. This can be a rewarding career and a well-written résumé can impress employers into hiring a potential candidate. Be sure to proofread the résumé and ensure that is free of errors. Good communication skills are a requirement for a forensic scientist's job and a résumé filled with errors can lose the attention of a potential employer.

Choose the format for your forensic scientist résumé. For example, you can choose a chronological format that lists your work experience first or you can use a functional style that is shows your skills first and work experience next. This format is chosen for those who may have little or no work experience.

Begin your résumé by listing your objective. You can state to the employer how you can benefit them in the forensic scientist position. Next you should list a summary of your experiences. You will not list your complete job history here but a basic summary of the duties you have performed. If you have experience collecting and classifying data, it should be listed here. In addition, be sure to summarize any tests that you have performed relating to any criminal investigations. Also include any years of experience that you have had in analytical chemistry or forensic evaluations.

List your professional experience in detail. List the names of your employers and the dates that you performed the duties. Be sure to include details regarding your duties. For example, if you have experience handling hazardous material or participated in any fire investigations, this should be listed in detail. List the names of any crime labs that you have worked in.

List your professional certifications. If you have received any professional certifications, these should be listed in the next section. List the name of the agency that approved the certification and the year that you received the certification.

List your education and training. If you graduated from a four-year college or received an associates degree, list this in the next section. Many forensic scientists receive bachelor's degrees in chemistry. Also include any seminars that were attended that relate to the study of forensics, such as seminars conducted by the FBI.

Conclude your résumé by listing any associations that you may have been involved in or any forensic scientist boards that you may have served on. Also list any forensic publications that you may have contribute to or written. List the name of the publication and any forensic journals that may have published it.
