The very first tip to remember is that you should start from your corners and work your way out when installing trim; that way, you always have your seams more towards the middle of the wall, which makes them easier to work on. Instructions

  1. Installing Corner Trim

    • 1

Prepare the miter saw for angled cuts on the molding. Make 45 degree angled cuts using a miter saw. Set the miter saw blade to the left for inside cuts, and to the right for outside corner cuts.

    • 2

Cut the piece that will make the left-hand side of the corner connection with the miter saw blade set to the left and the molding set in the right-side-up position.

    • 3

Cut the piece of molding that will make the right-hand side of the corner connection by placing it on the miter saw table and cutting with the blade at the 45 degree angle to the right.

    • 4

Sand both cuts smooth with fine grade sandpaper.

    • 5

Place the pieces in the corner to make the corner connection, and then mark either piece that may need to be cut to size.

    • 6

Cut either piece that needs to be cut to size.

    • 7

Place the pieces back in their place in the corner connection, and then install them into place using a hammer and finishing nails.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you need to measure a piece to size, always add at least an inch to the measurement prior to making the miter cuts. Corners sometimes have excess drywall mud or tape that will require the pieces to be slightly longer than the measurements may indicate.

  • Wear safety gloves and goggles whenever working with a power saw of any kind.
