Instructions

    • 1

Open windows and doors leading into and out of the basement space.

    • 2

Wipe up the urine spill if it is still wet with a rag or towel. Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands, and wear a nose mask.

    • 3

Mix 2 cups of white vinegar and 1 cup of warm water. Agitate the mixture with a scrub brush.

    • 4

Use the scrub brush to apply the vinegar/water mixture to the area where the urine was. Scrub vigorously to remove the urine stain and any urine residue.

    • 5

Use a clean sponge to apply a enzymatic cleaner to the area where the urine was. Follow any recommendations and warnings on the cleaner's container. An enzymatic cleaner can be found at pet supply, retail and hardware stores.

    • 6

Scrub the area with the sponge and then rinse the sponge in a bucket of warm water. Wipe the area clean with warm water.

    • 7

Pour about a cup full of enzymatic cleaner on to the area where the urine was.

    • 8

Cover the enzymatic cleaner with a plastic tarp or plastic drop cloth. Let the cleaner set overnight.

    • 9

Fill a plastic container with 2 cups of white vinegar and place the container near the plastic tarp or drop cloth to neutralize any urine smell.

    • 10

Remove the plastic tarp or drop cloth the next day and rinse the area with hot water. Use a dry cloth or towel to wipe the area clean.

    • 11

Let the area air dry or use a box fan to speed up the drying process.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the urine spot is large, use a sheet to wipe up the urine instead of rags or towels.

  • If the basement floor is concrete, reseal it, if needed.
