Instructions

  1. USING CITRUS FRUITS

    • 1

Take a large-sized lemon and cut a thick slice out of it. Place the slice on a paper towel and put it in your microwave oven. Lemon is a pleasant-smelling citrus fruit with proven natural deodorizing and cleaning properties.

    • 2

Set the temperature on your microwave oven to high, and time setting at approximately one or two minutes. Keep the microwaved slice of lemon in the oven overnight.

    • 3

Pour half a cup of (bottled) lemon juice into a bowl that is microwave-safe. Add some whole cloves to the lemon juice. Then run the oven on high temperature once again, for approximately one or two minutes.

    • 4

Use a paper towel to clean all interior areas of your microwave oven: sides, door, door seals, seams, glass window, ceiling and base (floor). Finally, use a clean piece of cloth to wipe dry all interior areas of the oven.

    USING VINEGAR AND BAKING SODA

    • 5

Wet a piece of clean dry cloth with white vinegar, and then wipe the inner walls of your oven. Apart from cleaning, the vinegar will also neutralize any stale odors within the oven. Vinegar is an effective deodorizer and cleaning agent.

    • 6

Prepare a fine (runny) paste by mixing baking soda with a little water.

    • 7

Apply the paste to all cookie trays and oven racks. Then, wipe with a clean dry cloth. Baking soda has abrasive properties and can therefore remove or dislodge residual, burnt food particles from all metal areas of your oven. Baking soda is also an effective deodorizer and cleaning agent.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a milder aroma, dilute the bottled lemon juice with a little water.

  • A slice of orange and bottled orange juice can also be used instead of lemon.

  • When not in use, try keeping a box of baking soda inside your oven, making sure to remove it before using it again to bake or cook.

  • Apart from its cleaning (abrasive) properties, baking soda can absorb and eliminate many of the offensive odors that linger in your oven after use.

  • Malfunctioning oven parts, defective electrical wiring and gas leaks are extremely dangerous. So do not deodorize or clean your oven using the methods explained above unless the faults are fixed first.
