How to Connect a Router to a Router Table

How to Connect a Router to a Router Tablethumbnail
A router finishes wood edges and "routs" sections to create hollowed-out designs.

There are two fastening methods to attach a router to the router table. With one method, the screws are driven into threaded holes in the base. With another method the screws go all the way through and a nut is then attached with a washer. The router and the router table should be built by the same manufacturer for ease of fit.

    Things You'll Need

    • Allen keys
    • Spirit level

Determine the method your router attaches. Use the instruction manual that came with your router table --- see below for Bosch router tables --- to determine the correct method for your router. There will be a chart identifying the hole pattern, the fasteners required --- generally Philips machine screws --- and the mount type.

Remove the sub-base from your router. It's plastic and should have screws attaching it to the router.

      • 3

Align the mounting holes and screw the mounting plate to the base. The mounting plate replaces the sub-base. The depth adjustment controls on the router face the front of the mounting plate.

      • 4

Mount the router to the mounting plate.

      • 5

Put the router, with the mounting plate attached through the hole in the table top and rest it on the leveling screws. Don't trap the cord.

      • 6

Check the mounting plate is level. Adjust the leveling screws as necessary and tighten the locking screws.

      • 7

Secure the mounting plate to the table with four #10-32 x 1-inch pan-head Phillips machine screws and #10-32 ESNA stop nuts. Secure through the inner corner holes in the plate.
