How to Remove Saris

Putting on a sari is an arduous task for those who are not taught the proper way to do so. The same goes for taking off a sari. Because a sari is basically a long piece of fabric, making sure that you remove it without becoming entangled is key. Following a few simple directions will have your sari off and folded, ready for another wearing, in no time.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the pin at the shoulder, if you have placed one there.

    • 2

Use the hand opposite the shoulder with the pallu (the portion of the sari that is draped over the shoulder) to pull this part of the sari off. Use both hands to fold the pallu to your waist.

    • 3

Unwrap the length that is around your waist, and fold this over the pallu so the fabric remains contained in the two folds.

    • 4

Untuck the pleats with one hand, and gather the fabric into folds with the other while still keeping the fabric contained in the folds that originally started with the pallu.

    • 5

Unwrap the remaining length that is around your waist with one hand, adding it to the folds that you have created in the other hand.

    • 6

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, twice.
