How to Clean a Proctor Silex Cordless Electric Kettle

Proctor Silex electric kettles use electricity to boil water for tea and other hot drinks. Some water supplies contain a large amount of minerals and other contaminants that can leave a white, scaly substance on the inside of your electric kettle. You may notice that water from the kettle starts to taste different when the scaly substance forms. To ensure high-quality water, clean the scaly substance from the kettle. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Cream of tartar
  • Measuring spoons
  • Water

Instructions

    • 1

      Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet, dump the remaining water in the sink and allow the kettle to cool down.

      Pour 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar into the kettle and add water to the kettle's maximum fill line. The combination of ingredients will clean the scaly deposit on the inside of the kettle.

      Plug the kettle into an electrical outlet and turn the power on until the solution comes to a boil.

      Turn off the kettle and allow it to sit for at least 15 minutes.

      Dump the solution out of the kettle into a sink and rinse the kettle out with fresh tap water.

      Wipe off the outside of the kettle with a damp cloth to keep it looking new.
