The feeling of happiness and well-being eludes many people. Perhaps it is because their lives lack meaning and a connection to the world around them. It may also be due to hormonal changes, a chemical imbalance or a lack of exercise. A lack luster life causes a tired feeling and general dissatisfaction with life. Whatever the reason, there are things that you can do to lift your spirits and to alleviate exhaustion and boredom.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

    Eat a healthy diet

  1. Step 1

Eat a well balanced healthy diet and avoid overindulging in caffeine, alcohol and sugar. An overabundance of these treats can have an adverse effect on your ability to get an adequate amount of sleep at night. Avoid eating too late in the evening in order to give your digestive system enough time to digest your food before bedtime. Your body cannot rest if it has to do work when you lie down to sleep.

  2. Step 2

Drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated. Dehydration slows the body down and makes you feel tired. Another remedy to exhaustion is to get plenty of exercise. A routine of regular of sustained exercise raises the endorphins in the body which make you feel more energetic and improves your mood. An exercise program does not have to be complicated. Taking a walk every morning or every evening not only raises your spirits but also helps you drop those extra pounds and increase your stamina.

  3. Step 3

Volunteer to help others in your community. Volunteer at a local hospital or nursing home or assist the elderly or handicapped in your neighborhood. Go visit your grandparents and offer to fix some things around the house like changing the batteries in the smoke alarms or changing the light bulbs. Your spirits will be lifted because you helped someone in need who will be very appreciative of your kindness.

  4. Step 4

Pursue a new interest such as a hobby or sport. Join a bowling league or take a sewing class at the local fabric and craft store. You will not only meet new friends in your community but you will have something to look forward to each week. Another boredom buster is to get into your car and take a long drive. Broaden your horizons by visiting an area of town that you've never been to before or drive to the next county. You may end up discovering a great little restaurant to have lunch or a new shopping center where you can purchase something that you've been wanting. The key is to get out of the house.
