Wind chimes add a nice touch to any garden or patio. Wind chimes make great gifts for most occasions. This tutorial will explain how to make fused glass wind chimes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • glass fusing kiln
  • Fusible glass
  • high temperature, copper or fine silver wire
  1. Step 1

Wrap your copper, fine silver or high temperature wire about fourteen times around a one inch mandrel to create a coil. Cut the coil to create jump rings.

  2. Step 2

Cut twelve pieces of fusible glass one inch wide by six inches long.

  3. Step 3

Arrange the glass strips into six piles of glass, add one jump ring on the top of each glass strip so that the jump ring is half on the glass and half off the glass. Add another layer of glass so that the two pieces are aligned and the jump ring is sandwiched between the two layers of glass. You can use a drop of glue to hold the glass in place, if needed. The jump ring will be fused into the glass and create a finding once the glass strips are placed into the kiln and fused.

  4. Step 4

Cut two pieces of glass into the shape of identical triangles. Add six jump rings to the bottom of one piece of glass. Add another jump ring to the very top of the triangle. Place the second piece of triangular glass on top.

After fusing these two pieces of glass together, you will suspend the six chimes from the six jump rings on the bottom of the triangular piece of glass. You will suspend the entire wind chime from the jump ring on the top of the triangle.

  5. Step 5

Place the glass in your glass fusing kiln and fire your kiln using this schedule as a guide:
Ramp ºF/Hr Target temperature Hold for
    1 600 1490 15
    2 Full 960 20
    3 150 750 0

  6. Step 6

Cut six pieces of fishing line. Tie one end of the first piece of fishing line to the jump ring fused into the triangle top piece and tie the other end to your first strip. Repeat until you have tied all six strips to the top plate.
