Step 1
Read through online stock investment forums to see what other investors are doing now and explanations for why they are doing it. The Motley Fool CAPS website is particularly helpful for finding this type of information because the investment advice that the community judges to be more helpful gets voted to the top, while the less helpful online stock investment advice gets voted down. These types of sites are a great way to filter trough a lot of information and skip past a lot of the spamy online stock investment posts.

Step 2
Test out your online stock investment ideas in an online stock investment training platform. The Motley Fool CAPS program is a great, free website for this, but others will work just as well. Basically, this is a proving ground to try out your online stock investment ideas-- you buy a portfolio of stocks using fake money and see how your investments do.
-
Step 3
Compare your online stock investment training results with the results other people are getting. Most of these mock stock exchanges allow every trader to see how every other trader is doing. Comparing your online stock investment results with those of other traders is a great way to get new investment ideas, and ideas for tweaking your portfolio to mirror that of someone whose portfolio has been performing better than yours.
