Step 1
Remember that different age children have different expenses -
Budgeting for children is different depending on the age of the children. So, you must first figure out how old the children are you are budgeting for. -
Step 2
Make a list of general expenses based on the age of your child or children -
Depending on the child's age, make a list of expenses you have. General expenses can include food, schooling, school supplies, extra utilities, etc. -
Step 3
Calculate seasonal expenses for children -
Inside your budget for children, add in expenses for children based on season. For example, summer clothing at the beginning of the summer season and winter clothing at the beginning of the winter. Other possibilities include swimming lessons for the summer or winter coat for the winter or even routine dental appointments. -
Step 4
Include one time expenses in your kids' budget -
Make a list of one time expenses that children have. These expenses can be all the equipment that you need to buy for a newborn baby or the expense of braces for a teenager. -
Step 5
Add in entertainment expenses and extras -
Make sure to budget in extra expenses for children that include entertainment, buying the kid toys and games and even allowance for the child. -
Step 6
Create a budget based on all expenses combined -
Once you have a list of all expenses for children, you will need to create a budget. Figure out how much each expense costs and how you will pay for it. -
Step 7
Make sure to save up money for times when expenses are high -
Some months will have a lot of expenses for children (like changes of seasons, for example). Make sure to budget your money so that you save up money to cover these tough periods.
