Scorpion sting symptoms

Scorpion sting symptoms are very similar to different types of spider bites and wasp stings. There is 1 type of scorpion, however, that is extremely dangerous, and sometimes deadly to humans. For this reason, it is important to be able to recognize the difference between a regular bite and scorpion sting symptoms.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check for a stinger. Scorpion sting symptoms almost never come with a stinger. Wasp and bees, however, leave one behind often. You may need a magnifying glass for this step.

  2. Step 2

Look at the entry point. Is there 1 small dot in the skin, or is there a tear? Spiders tend to tear the skin a bit, while scorpion sting symptoms begin with a small dot at entry.

  3. Step 3

Feel the skin for any pain and numbness around the affected area. Scorpion sting symptoms can be pretty severe when it comes to pain.

  4. Step 4

Check for any swelling. A lot of swelling typically directs you away from scorpion sting symptoms because any enlargement is typically mild.

  5. Step 5

Pay attention to other parts of your body. Any nausea or vomiting and excessive saliva are also scorpion sting symptoms when accompanied by the previous steps.

Tips & Warnings
  • The bark scorpion is the only deadly variety in the United States. It can be found in California, New Mexico, and Arizona.
