Things You'll Need:
- heavy-gauge craft wire
- jewelry pliers
- wire cutters
- large styrofoam craft balls
- copper foil
- small hammer
- nail
- tin shears
- white paint
- glue
- glitter
- "o-ring" decorative screws
-
Step 1
Cut the stars from a roll of shiny copper foil, using a free online star template, a book pattern, or one you designed yourself.
-
Step 2
Use the tin shears to cut pieces slightly larger than the desired finished star. The approximate finished size should be less than five inches (but you can make them smaller or larger if preferred). Take care to trim away any sharp edges, so the sides are smooth, even, and less dangerous.
-
Step 3
Place the template or pattern over each piece of copper, then use the hammer and nail to punch the design into the copper surface. Create your own patterns by using a connect-the-dots theme to embellish the paper template before you punch.
-
Step 4
Cut the finished stars out and punch a large nail hole in the top of each (or in each star "arm" if preferred)in order to string them on the wire.
-
Step 5
To make the styrofoam "snow balls", paint the styrofoam balls white, then sprinkle generously with clear glitter and let dry.
-
Step 6
Press a small "o-ring" screw into the top of each snow ball after basting a little glue on the tips of each one.
-
Step 7
Cut a long piece of wire from spool of heavy craft-gauge wire for your garland (make it longer than the intended garland length by several inches.
-
Step 8
Alternate the stars and snow balls by threading them onto the wire (the snow balls through the rings, the stars through their enlarged holes). Space them apart, then loop the wire decoratively to hold each one in place.
-
Step 9
Add a light coat of white paint to the exposed wire (if desired) once the ornaments are all in place; sprinkle the wet surface with glitter and let dry.
-
Step 10
Loop the ends of the garland, then hang from decorative hooks or nails in the desired location.
