Buy your fake pumpkins. Like real pumpkins, fake ones come in a variety of sizes. You'll need to decide on a size and how many you'll need. You can find fake pumpkins at Michael's or JoAnn Fabric's in the fall.

      Castle Pumpkin!

Pick your pattern. I had a Ren Faire inspired theme, so I used castles, and crowns and axes as the pattern. You could draw your pattern or use a computer. The way I did it was to find clipart, blow it up to the appropriate size and print it out.

Tack the pattern to the pumpkin. Then use anoth tack to trace out the pattern by making tack marks along the outline of the pattern.

Carve the pumpkin. You will need to use a special pumpkin knife (also sold at Michael's or JoAnn Fabric's). Be warned, this makes a huge mess. When you cut through the pumpkin it makes a sawdust substance that gets everywhere. So I'd carve it on newspapers or something else that is easy to clean up afterwards.

      Crown pumpkin!

Once you are done carving, just wipe the pumpkin down. You can add a fake candle to have a lighted look to it!

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use a real candle in your fake pumpkin as fake pumpkins are flammable!
