This article assumes you already have some basic working knowledge or crochet and crochet terms.

It is important to shape your work carefully in order to maintain a neat, firm edge. This avoids the "steps" that can sometimes be formed on the edges of your fabric, which can be particularly noticable when working long crochet stitches in thicker yarns, and can causer serious difficulty when trying to finish your project.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A basic knowlege of crochet
  • some yarn and a hook to practice with
  1. Step 1

Stitches are increased at each end of the row in exactly the same way as for single crochet or half doubles; First, work two stitches into the stitch after the turning chain at the beginning of the row.

  2. Step 2

Next, work across the row until only two stitches remain, including the turning chain, then work two stitches into the next stitch.

  3. Step 3

Finally, work the last stitch into the turning chain of the previous row. You will have increased two extra stitches - one stitch at each end of the row within a one stitch border.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is a necessary skill for pattern making, and more complicated patterns.
  • Practise makes perfect!
  • If you are using a specific pattern, and they use a differect method for increasing stitches, use the one provided in the pattern.
