Posters are one of the most popular decorating items that people purchase. Posters of various types are seen in offices, fine homes and college dorms. One of the most popular types of poster is one in which old commercial signs are re-created. In some cases, these posters are based on real signs, while in others they simply reproduce the particular theme or style of that kind of sign. You can create a "vintage" carnival sign from scratch using Daz Studio (a freeware 3-D rending program).

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to Daz3D and download the Daz Studio program (the freeware version). Install the program on your computer. Now look in both the Daz3D and Renderosity free areas for models you might want to use for a carnival poster, such as a Ferris wheel, a roller coaster, booths, grass and other props. You will also need to download the Victoria 4 and Michael 4 figures from Daz3D. Finally, download clothing for these figures. Remember that any clothing has to have been made for the specific figure you plan to use. Install all this content to the Daz Studio application. If some of it is not in a format that will load directly in the libraries, just save it to a separate folder.

  2. Step 2

Sketch out your ideas for your vintage carnival sign based on the content you were able to load into Daz Studio. Try to place you human figures at the center of the sketches, since you will want to have a large border around the edges, though you might have a couple peeking in from the side to see what is going on in the carnival. Make sure that the proportions are right for a sign.

  3. Step 3

Open Daz Studio. Go to the "Libraries" on the left, and browse through them for the figures you want to use. Load a figure into the scene by using the mouse to drag it. Drag the clothing onto the figure as well. Then load all the props. For those props that you saved separately, select "File" and then "Import" to browse to the folder and load the props. Arrange them to match the sketches you made.

  4. Step 4

Click on the "Pose" tab at the top. Then select on the figures you loaded. Go to the "Power Pose" panel on the right, click on a body part you want to pose in the figure and use the mouse to move that part in the panel. As you do so, the corresponding part will move on the figure you selected. Pose all the figures in this way to match the sketches.

  5. Step 5

Select the "Render" tab at the top. Go to the "Render Settings" panel on the right. Make the size, quality and file type what you want. Then click on the "Render" icon at the top. Save your image as a high resolution JPEG and burn it to a CD. Take it to a printer like Staples or Office Depot that prints posters and have your vintage carnival sign printed.
