After the injury occurs, put as little stress and tension on the wrist as possible. This should be rather easy, since you can use your other hand and feet to move around or grab other things. If someone else is present with you, sit or lie down and allow them to take care of you.

2
Wrap the wrist with a fine linen cloth or other type of light but supportive material that can prevent drastic movement of the wrist. Basically you are trying to prevent the wrist from jerking around, and this makeshift splint will hold it until you receive professional medical attention.

Never, under any circumstance attempt to use your hand or grip anything if you believe the wrist may be broken. Always take the necessary precautions. It's better to be safe than sorry. If the pain is unbearable, you definitely should not do anything with the wrist until a doctor can further diagnose the situation.

Consider wrapping your arm in a sling to keep it immobilized until you can get medical attention. Use a long scarf or piece of fabric to hold your injured arm in a relaxed position, bent at the elbow and held against your stomach. Have someone else tie the sling if necessary - do not use the hand of your injured arm to do anything.
